GREW DAILY: Goodbook 02-22-12

Goodbook messages arrive every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday with a Scripture reading and ideas for how to apply the reading in our lives. We are reading through the book of Acts. For additional Scripture reading, you can follow the Advanced Track.

Reading: Acts 16:5 (Advanced Track: Ruth 1-4)

5 So the churches were strengthened in the faith and grew daily in numbers.

Application:

We might think of church growth on a yearly or weekly basis.  Each year we can look at membership statistics.  Each week we can look at attendance statistics.  I do not know of too many churches, however, that track their growth on a daily basis.  Yet in the early church we find exactly that.  People recognized that the churches were growing daily in numbers.

How does a church grow daily?  A church grows daily when people in a community of faith are living out their faith and being the church on a daily basis.  Church is not somewhere we go or something we do.  It is who we are, day in and day out, no matter where we are or what we are doing.  When God’s people embrace that identity and operate with that mindset, there is no limit to the ways God can grow the Church.

Churches grow daily when their people are growing daily – making time each day to read the Bible, talk with God, develop relationships with God’s people, show God’s love, serve those in need, tell others about Jesus, share what we have, and participate in ministry inside and outside the church building.  I said “make time,” because this type of daily growth does not happen by chance.  Our lives are filled with distractions and demands.  If we aren’t careful, our days can fill up and push God out.  What a waste that would be.  God created us for a unique purpose.  God has incredible love and gifts to share with us.  God has a wonderful plan for every day of our lives.  And one day God wants to spend eternity with us.  The most important thing we can do every day is grow in our faith and help grow God’s Church.

So read through the list in the paragraph above.  Identify your growth areas.  Set aside time every day to grow in one of these areas and grow in your relationship with God.  If you need help with this, let me know or talk with the leaders in your community of faith.  When people of faith are growing every day and doing what they can to grow the Church every day, communities of faith are strengthened and grow daily in numbers.

1) Grow daily
2) Grow the Church daily
