In our Advanced track readings, we have read about King Solomon building a temple for God. Solomon asked God to respond to the prayers of God's people. In reply, God described how his people are to respond to their God. I hear Good News and a challenge in this verse:"If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land."
There is Good News. But first, the bad news. I think we would all admit that our land is in need of healing. We have ecological devastation, political upheaval, relational breakdowns, personal struggles, poverty, prejudice, and on and on. Our land is in need of healing. The Good News is that we have a God who longs to heal our land and our lives.
There is also a challenge. To unleash God's healing power on our land, it takes people people of faith who radically seek God above all else. You and I can be those people. So memorize this verse. Get it on your heart and your mind so that every day we can:
1) Humble ourselves before God - realizing we need God's help and healing.
2) Pray.
3) Seek God's face - God's presence, God's glory, God's will, God's direction.
4) Turn from our wicked ways.
Maybe we could use this verse to guide our next Goodbook prayer chat.
