REPENT: Goodbook 10-01-12

Goodbook messages arrive every Monday, Thursday, and Friday with a Scripture reading and ideas for how to apply the reading in our lives. We are reading through the book of Acts. For additional Scripture reading, you can follow the Advanced Track.

Reading: Acts 17:30

In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent.

Application:

Repent.  I know.  It's one of those bible words.  One of those church words.  But it is a word worth knowing and understanding.

Repent means to change direction in either thoughts or actions.  Sometimes it's described as turning away from sin so we can turn toward God.

This is important to God.  God wants everyone everywhere to repent.  To change how we think and act.  To turn away from all those things that distract and detour and destroy, and to turn to him for love, forgiveness, guidance, hope, power, life, and salvation.

There is a first step of repentance that happens in a person's life when they first decide to turn to God.  But as sinful people we often have to repent.  We often have to admit we've turned away from God and need to turn back.

So today is a day of repentance!

1) What thoughts need to change for you?

2) What things do you need to turn away from?

3) How can you turn to God today in a way that transforms both your thoughts and your actions?
