One of our
challenges for 2015 is to learn and live all 50 commands of Jesus.
Jesus told us that following his commandments is a way to love him and a way
for his love and his joy to fill our lives (John 15:9-12). In his Great
Commission, Jesus tells his followers to make disciples of all nations, teaching
them to obey everything he commanded us (Matthew 28:19-20). So each week
in this year we are learning and living one command of Jesus. Here is our
command for this week...
Week 30:
“Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the
Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them,” (Matthew 5:17).
Application:
Sometimes it helps to go back to the basics. We've been talking about the 50 commands of
Jesus. But let’s not forget the original
10 commands that God gave to his people.
Jesus affirmed these commands and sought to deepen their meaning and
application in our lives.
Looking at these commands has a double affect in our
lives. They reveal our sinfulness and
need for God’s grace. But they also
reveal the kind of freedom and life we can have with God’s help.
My son brought home a helpful sheet from his Sunday
school class about the 10 Commandments.
Take a look at these ten commands and their meaning. Which have you broken and need to ask
forgiveness for? Which do you need God’s
help with? Spend time this weekend
reflecting and praying on the 10 Commandments.
