BLESS FAMILY: Goodbook 03-21-12

Tonight I am preaching for Lenten service with Good Shepherd at 7pm.  I invite any of you to join us for a meal at 6pm and worship at 7pm.  It's my first time preaching with Good Shepherd.  I could use all your prayers.

Today, I wanted to share a thought and a prayer I had while reading our Advanced Track readings.  Our last chapter was 1 Chronicles 16.  David and all of Israel set up a place and design for worship.  They have an awesome plan for giving and singing.  But I was struck most by how it ended.

"Then all the people left to go to their homes, and David returned home to bless his family," (1 Chronicles 16:43).  I was so moved by that.  Many just went home.  David went home to bless his family.

If I am honest, most days I just come home.  I've worked hard, I've given my best.  Sometimes my family gets my leftovers and they aren't always the best leftovers.  That is sad and not what I want for my family.  I want to bless my family.  Every time I come home, I want my family to feel blessed - blessed by my love, blessed by my faith, blessed by my presence, blessed by my prayers, blessed by my help and support, blessed by God through me.  I am going to start praying that my coming home will be an explosion of blessing.

I know everyone reading this does not have a family at home.  But we all have a family of some sort.  Think about how you are interacting with your family.  Do you think they feel blessed by you?  How might you bless them?

God calls us to be a blessing to all the world.  Our families should be included in that blessing.

1) Bless your family.

  1. Very good posting! It encourages all of us to ask this question (before we walk in the front door) "How did my actions today prepare me to be a blessing to my family?" Sometimes a long or hard day brings me home with little energy. If I focus my thoughts correctly (not always easy to do!) I am thankful that my family's love and patience is God's blessing to me. It's in the quiet of a day's end that I am humbled by all that God gives me.
