BE STILL: Goodbook 05-21-12

My Monday tends to start with a blast of activity.  Most of my week I feel like I'm rushing to get done everything I need to get done or I am rushing from one place to the next.  Most of the time I am constantly on the go.  Ever feel like this?

Over the past few days I've had several moments when I was able to stop and be still.  I was able to sit before God in prayer and remember that there is a God and it's not me.  I was able to rest in God's grace and God's strength and God's presence.  It was nice....

My application for today is: be still.  Take a few moments to be still with God.  Don't talk.  Don't do.  Just be still.  Don't feel the need to hear anything.  Don't feel the need to have a life altering experience.  Just be still and know that God is God.

Maybe when you get frustrated or feel tempted or feel exhausted, we can remember to tell ourselves, "Be still and know that God is God."  Think of how that could change a moment, a decision, a day, or a life!

God invites us to do this.  In Psalm 46:10, we hear God say, "Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted above the nations, I will be exalted in the earth."  I wrote a song based on this verse that I am sharing with you.  You can hear it by clicking on this link: PASTORJAMS.  The song is very simple.  Sing it along with me to center yourself.

Or you could recite this prayer:

Be still, and know that I am God
Be still, and know that I am
Be still, and know
Be still
Be

Then, be still and know that God is God.

  1. Be still, rest in the vine, I will take the troubles... Rest in the vine.....I will take your burden.... My yoke is easy... This is how we sleep at night.....

  2. It's so hard to be still. Some times I think God calls me to do things.... (You know, not being a sloth) Hard to find the balance between be still and know I am your God, and the sin of sloth.
