MUDDY: Goodbook 08-10-12

I've been reading the book of Jeremiah.  His story reminds me that it is not always easy to be a follower of God.  Many of the kings did not react kindly to his words of warning from God.  Jeremiah had a scroll written for King Jehoiakim.  The king had it read, and as each piece was read, he tore it off and burned it in the fire.  Another King named Zedekiah threw Jeremiah in prison and then into a muddy cistern.  Still, God was faithful to Jeremiah and helped him through each challenge.  A man named Ebed-Melek organized a rescue party for Jeremiah.  He was careful to even bring old clothes to put around the ropes so Jeremiah's arms would not get hurt as they pulled him from the muddy cistern.

It's not always easy to follow God, but there is no one else more faithful that we can follow.  Be encouraged today.  No matter what challenges you face, no matter how difficult it may be to follow God, continue to trust in God and follow Him.  God is faithful and can lift us up from whatever muddy pit we may find ourselves in.

For the whole story, read Jeremiah 36-38 (especially 38:1-13).
