Zechariah, the father of John the Baptist, sang a song about his son. In the song he sang these words:
"And you, my child, will be called a prophet of the Most High;
for you will go on before the Lord to prepare the way for him,
to give his people the knowledge of salvation
through the forgiveness of their sins,
because of the tender mercy of our God,
by which the rising sun will come to us from heaven
to shine on those living in darkness
and in the shadow of death,
to guide our feet into the path of peace.”
Here are some reflection questions. How have you experienced Jesus as your rising sun - shining through the darkness and guiding your feet in the path of peace? What darkness are you currently experiencing? How can you invite the rising sun to shine on you?

I hope the rising sun will shine on me, and reflect back into the darkness that sometimes surrounds me. We all have moments of darkness, but we have a choice between fear and hope. Hope allows us to shine no matter how difficult our lives.
ReplyDeleteRecently, I've struggled with depression and anxiety. Some attempts to open myself to those around me have not gone well, but I take comfort in the relationships that remain steadfast. Having strength in difficult times can reflect back onto our detractors and they are left to wonder, "Why is this person smiling?"
