KING: Goodbook 11-26-12

I've been reading through the Gospel of Mark with my small group.  This morning I read about the soldiers mocking Jesus.  It was difficult to read for many reasons.

Pilate asked Jesus if he was the king of the Jews.  Jesus replied, "You have said so."  The soldiers made a mockery of Jesus being a king.  They put a purple robe on him, twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on him, called out to him "Hail, the king of the Jews," struck him on the head with a staff, spit on him, fell on their knees before him, and paid homage to him.

Knowing that Jesus is the Son of God and the King of kings, it was heartbreaking to read accounts of people not treating him like a king.  Jesus deserved and deserves so much better.  It made me wonder if we treat King Jesus in a manner deserving of a king.  Or do we mock him and hurt him by the way we treat him?

Think about how you would treat a king.  You would probably bow in respect.  You would probably listen to what they said.  You would probably follow their command and let them be in control.  You would probably clear your schedule to make time for them.  You would probably let them set the agenda.  You would probably go to great leangths and great costs to welcome them and serve them.

If we would do that for an earthly king, we should do that and MORE for our heavenly King.

What are some ways you can treat Jesus in a manner deserving of the King of Kings?
