PROOF: Goodbook 04-26-13

Every morning I try to share something from my Bible reading with my son.  Today's one was fun and easy to apply, so I thought I would share it with you.

I read 2 Corinthians 8.  In this chapter Paul says, "show the proof of your love," (v. 24).

That statement really struck me.  People say "I love you" so easily these days that you can wonder if there is any true substance and meaning behind the words.  Real love shows proof.  Think about how you want to be loved.  If someone told you they loved you but never showed you any proof of their love, you would begin to question their love for you.  We want (perhaps we need) others to show us the proof of their love in order to feel truly loved.

God did that for us.  God did not just say "I love you."  God showed the proof of His love over and over and over again.  The ultimate proof of God's love was Jesus.  The well known verse from John 3:16 says, "For God so loved the world THAT (here comes the proof) he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."

This caused me to reflect on how I love God and others.  Am I just saying "I love you," or am I showing the proof of my love?  How about you?  Can God and others see the proof of your love?

In 2 Corinthians 8, the apostle Paul identifies some ways we can show proof of our love.  We can show the proof of our love to God and to others through our speech, our giving, and our eagerness to help.  So here is our application challenge for today:

1) Find one way to show God the proof of your love today.
2) Pick one person you love and show them proof of your love today.

Maybe we should repeat the challenge every day this week.

Share stories of how you are sharing the proof of your love with God and others...
