READY: Goodbook 12-22-16

Are you ready for Christmas?

I heard something on the radio that really impacted me regarding Christmas preparations.  The radio announcer said a friend had asked him if he was ready for Christmas.  He replied, "No, I haven't gotten all my presents and the house is not decorated and ..."  His friend interrupted him and said, "What do presents and decorating have anything to do with being ready for Christmas?"  His friend helped him see that getting ready for Christmas is more about preparing your heart than preparing your home or your shopping list.  It is a time to reflect on the magnitude of how much God loves us and how much God has done for us.  It is a time to celebrate that God chooses to be with us in every season, no matter what we are going through.  It is a time to fall on our knees in thanksgiving that God pursues us relentlessly even though we are so prone to wander.  It is a time to receive the Good News that God can save us and give us new life.  It is a time to consider how we can respond to the coming of our Lord and Savior Jesus and participate in God's mission on earth.  This changes how we think about getting ready for Christmas.  Getting ready involves preparing our hearts for confession, love, gratitude, celebration, joy, new life, and mission.

So, are you ready for Christmas?  If not, don't worry.  You have a few more days and lots of worship opportunities ahead to help you get ready for Christmas. :)  See you soon!
